Welcome back, Kotter!   Leave a comment

Always smilin'

Always smilin’

I recently learned that a very good friend, Doug Thompson, is home from the hospital and doing well. Doug was critically injured in a really bad accident when he had to lay down his Harley. From what I was told, it was touch & go for the first coupla’ days thereafter.

Doug grew up in Floyd and is a landmark around here. If you see a black Harley parked on the street in front of The Country Store, you know he’s inside. That’s one of his favorite hangouts.

Doug got into journalism when he was a young man and took off to DC to cover and report on the current events in our nation’s capital. He told me he swore an oath that he would never return to podunk Floyd. Apparently, Floyd has a draw that’s irresistable because Doug did come home.

Doug has a site called Blue Ridge Muse and writes every day. He does a terrific job of covering the various sport activities at Floyd County High School as well as the local interests. You’ll often see him downtown on Friday nights when the locals come out of the woodwork for a little Bluegrass music and dancing in The Country Store.  He also covers the various cases in the Floyd County Court House for the Floyd Press, our home town newspaper.

I’m really looking forward to seeing Doug again. We’ve enjoyed some nice lunches together. I’m glad to hear you’re home, buddy. Welcome back!
